We ask that all clothing is clearly named

Footwear

Both boys and girls are expected to wear sensible footwear.

Shoes, for both boys and girls, must be black and should also be flat to enable children to run and play safely. During the summer, children can wear either black or white sandals, but these must not have open toes. Socks must be worn with sandals.

Please note that ‘trainers’ (even if black) are not allowed, except for outside games activities. In bad weather/winter, boots/wellington boots can be worn to and from the school, but children must change into their school shoes when they arrive at school.

Coats

The colour of coats is parental choice but should be waterproof and warm for the winter.  The Sewing Shop in Echo Square, Gravesend, sells waterproof coats with the school logo; this is an optional item.

Outdoor Learning (Year R only)

All children in Year R will need Wellington boots, tracksuit bottoms, a sweatshirt and a spare pair of socks and underwear in a named PE bag.

PE Kit

All children need a t-shirt in House colour, dark shorts and trainers for outside PE.

House t-shirts can be purchased from The Sewing Shop (see bottom of the page for details).

  • Hever: GREEN
  • Knole: RED
  • Penshurst: YELLOW

In the winter, a dark tracksuit may be worn for outside PE lessons.

A drawstring bag in House colours is required in order to store children’s PE kit and can be purchased from The Sewing Shop.

PE kits will be kept in school and will be sent home at the end of each term to be washed.

Jewellery

Jewellery, except studs and watches, must not be worn to school.

Earring studs will need to be removed for PE lessons and we would highly recommend that children’s ears are pierced during the summer holiday period.  If studs cannot be taken out, in the first six weeks after piercing, they should be taped using Micropore tape.  Tape will need to be provided by parents, and kept in the child’s PE bag. Your child will be responsible for taping their own ear piercings. After 6 weeks, we would ask that the children are able to remove their own studs for PE or preferably, they do not wear any studs on the days that they have PE lessons.  Parents should provide a small pot for their child to store their studs during the PE lesson.

Check your child's year group page for scheduled PE days on a termly basis.

Classes

Medic-Alert bracelets

Pupils are allowed to wear Medic-Alert bracelets.

School Bags

Children in Years R, 1 and 2 must use a book bag for carrying their belongings to and from school and these can be purchased from The Sewing Shop. Children are allowed to attach one key ring to their book bag to help make it more easily identifiable.

From September 2018, children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 must use our school rucksack to store their belongings which can be purchased form the Sewing Shop. Children are allowed to attach one key ring to their book bag to help make it more easily identifiable.

General Appearance

It is expected that all children will arrive at school clean, tidy and well-groomed. Make-up and nail varnish must not be worn to school.

Hair

To comply with Health and Safety regulations and to reduce the risk of transfer of head lice, any child with hair below collar length must come to school with a band or other suitable means for tying back their hair when taking part in PE, including swimming and any other practical subject.

It is not acceptable for children to come to school with an extreme hairstyle.

For girls, excessively large hair accessories must not be worn; small bows and hairbands in the school colours of white and blue may be worn.

Summer Notes:

All children need sun hats or baseball caps during the summer months.

All children need sun cream applied before school during the summer month. Suncream is not to be brought into school. Please use the once a day sun cream that can be administered before school.

Sunglasses only to be worn if they are required for medical reasons.

Winter Notes:

PE is not cancelled due to cold weather.
