At Meopham Community Academy, we are at the beginning of our journey to become a ‘Values-Based School’.

At Meopham Community Academy, every individual is valued for who they are and what they contribute to the school. Values are intended to support the personal, social and spiritual development of every pupil throughout the school.

What is a Values-Based School?

A Values-Based School seeks to promote an educational philosophy based on valuing self and others, through the consideration of an ethical values vocabulary as the basis of good educational practice. This process is called Values Education.

What are the Core Values at Our School?

Our school’s twelve core values, which will be introduced over a two year period, have been selected after consultation with pupils, staff, governors and parents as values which are important within the school community and which will be important throughout life beyond Meopham Community Academy.

At the start of each term within the school year, a new value will be introduced. The core values are:

Teaching and Learning About Values

The core values are at times addressed directly through lessons and assemblies but also permeate the whole curriculum. Either way, they are the basis for the social, intellectual, emotional, spiritual and moral development of the whole child. We encourage children to consider these values, and thereby to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes that enable them to develop as reflective learners and grow to be stable, educated and civil adults.

Teaching and learning about our values takes place in the following ways:

By the Headteacher introducing the core value in an assembly at the beginning of each new term, to ensure that pupils become familiar with the language and ideas.

By teachers explaining the meaning of the value.

By pupils reflecting on the value and what it means to them and their own behaviour.

By pupils using the value to guide their own actions.

By staff modelling the value through their own behaviour.

By ensuring that values are taught implicitly through every aspect of the curriculum.

By involving all staff, governors and parents in the values programme through information on the website which explains how school and home can work together to promote positive values.

Termly Values

Each term, we will post our 'Value of the Term' together with the presentation shown to the children, at the beginning of the term, introducing the value.
