Local Governing Body

The Local Governing Body (LGB) at Meopham Community Academy has a wide range of experience, knowledge and competency working effectively in teams making corporate decisions.

The LGB's role is to exercise leadership on behalf of The Pathway Academy Trust in the running of an individual school, to hold the school's Senior Leadership Team to account on the operation and performance of the school and to exercise its responsibilities and powers in partnership with the Headteacher, staff, and the Trust's Directors.

Governors come from a variety of different backgrounds, reflecting the many interest groups in the school, but they have one important thing in common: they are dedicated to ensuring that the children in our school have the best education possible. This is the primary focus of all governors.

Our school's LGB comprises: Parent Governors (PG); Staff Governors (SG); and Community Governors (CG). The full governing body usually meets four times a year, with additional meetings called when necessary.

Becoming a Parent Governor is open to all parents or carers of children within the school. When a vacancy arises, the school community is notified via letter, nominations processed and elections are then held to select the new governor. They each serve for four years. Support and training is available for all new governors.

School Governor Expression of Interest

I would like to inform you of some changes to the Local Governing Body (LGB) within school. Andy Sharrod, Chair of the LGB, has this academic year, stepped down from this role and the LGB. After nine years of support to the school, with six of those spent as Chair, I would like to thank him for his time, commitment and loyalty in supporting the school to ensure the best for our pupils. The role of a school governor is a voluntary role and we are always very grateful to those who give their time for the benefit of all pupils and staff within school.

I am pleased to inform you that Jan Bennett, a member of The Pathway Academy Trust, has been appointed as Interim Chair. Jan brings with her a high level of knowledge and experience, due to an extensive background in Education; most recently as a serving Headteacher.

We currently have vacancies on the LGB and many of you spoke with Jan at our recent parent consultation evenings, with a view to finding out more about how you could support the school by becoming governor.

For those parents who took away an ‘expression of interest’ form, I ask that these are returned to the school by Monday 25th November 2019. Please remember that by completing the form, you are not committing to anything more than expressing that you have an interest in becoming a governor and would like to find out more about the role.
